What’s WithingtonMedia, David?
Do you want to get started in media – but you’re put off by all the complexities?
Well… that’s why I created this website.
To simplify media.
You see… I enjoy helping people to succeed and do well in life.
And I’ve discovered that media is a great way to do that.
Perhaps that’s why I’m using media – this website – to share this stuff about how to do… err… media.
My Very First Website
On the subject of websites, my first ever website was on the free 30MB space our internet provider gave us, sometime back in the 1990s.
I can laugh about it now.
But at the time it was built with a lot of TLC using FrontPage, the website builder which came with either Microsoft Office or Windows.
That first website contained
- a few jokes
- some puzzles that friends had emailed
- a short video clip which wouldn’t take up too much bandwidth
I learned a lot from that.
Thankfully, since then, I’ve made some proper websites, and have written a few hundred pages, articles, blog posts and ebooks, used social media for different purposes (from sharing my favourite puns to making an income), created videos and produced podcasts.
And the fascination with it never fades.
Maybe that’s because technology is continuously developing and there’s always something new to learn.
So Why WithingtonMedia?
‘Cos it sounds good?
Haha! No. It’s so that I could have a platform to share things I’ve learned.
I know that some people are afraid of technology.
So I wanted to simplify things – so that anyone can start in whatever sort of media they want.
Take my mate Tom for example.
Tom’s a complete technophobe.
But he has a huge knowledge in his particular subject – which he wanted to share.
So one day he rang me up and asked how he could start a podcast.
“How can I do a podcast, David?”
Talk about being forced to make something mega-simple.
After a chat, Tom went away to buy his very first smartphone.
And he began to record some audio.
The rest is history.
Listen, if Tom can do it, so can you!
Who’s It For?
The WithingtonMedia website exists for anyone who wants to:
- Start a Blog
- Make a website
- Use Social Media for more than sharing cat pictures
- Start a podcast
- Make a video
- an entrepreneur
- a business startup
- someone who wants to learn a new skill
… I had you in mind.
Who is David Withington, Anyway?
I’m a communications engineer who took early retirement in 2016 so that I could spend my time doing what I love. And from what you’ve just read, I think you know what I love doing.
I’m married with two grown-up children – which means there are always people to learn new stuff from every day.
In my spare time, I enjoy fell walking, volunteering at church, and thinking up crazy puns.
